Crockham Hill June 2025 Newsletter - Flipbook - Page 3
Editorial
As wisteria bloomed across Crockham Hill and summer comes into view,
this month we take a moment to remember those our community has lost,
one after a long and full village life and one far too soon, though a life still
full of impact. The loss of Freda and Janice will shadow the village for
months to come. But their example will be a beacon for us all. So, this
month we9re excited to present a fresh layout for your village newsletter.
After listening to your feedback, we've redesigned it to be easier to read,
more engaging and reflective of what matters most to you. We hope you
enjoy the changes and warmly invite your thoughts as we evolve with your
input at heart.
Inside this edition, you9ll find a heartfelt recap of the Village Tea Party and
the wonderful community gathering held to commemorate the 80th
anniversary of VE Day. We feature a rich tapestry of local history, taking a
walk down memory lane through the recollections of Freda, delving into
the war years 1939-1945 with a thoughtful retrospective, bringing you the
first part of a history of Oakdale Lane, painstakingly researched and written
with significant input from its residents.
While our heart remains local, this edition also embraces global figures like
Pope Francis, Nelson Mandela, and F.W. de Klerk, drawing connections
between their inspiring stories and the values we hold dear. We also review
a fascinating study of policies that, history shows, enable nations to thrive.
Back home again, with the sun making a welcome return, now is the time
to enjoy the outdoors. Be sure to check out our featured monthly walk; a
great way to explore the natural beauty surrounding us.
As always, our newsletter is hand-delivered to your door. We appreciate
all contributions that you feel inclined to make, since it9s only your kind
contributions and advertising (not too obtrusive, we trust) that allow us to
continue.
