The Annual Parish Church Meeting
21 parishioners met in the School Hall on 13 May to elect their
churchwardens and to hear 13 reports on various community initiatives.
There are now 104 members on the Electoral Roll of which some 68
regularly attend church, a relatively high number nowadays for a village of
600 souls.
Ros Ellis and Lorraine Ashley were warmly thanked for their sterling year
of service as churchwardens. Upon Ros9s well-earned retirement, Lorraine
was elected to continue for another year; Carole Feakes was elected as
Assistant Warden.
Tony Rogers, treasurer, presented his financial report which showed
income of £62,951 more than offset by expenditure of £64,703, reducing
the church's reserves to £39,486. It was noted that this is a worryingly small
figure given the approaching five-year surveyor's review of the church
building and following the enormous rise in maintenance costs since the
last one. Scaffolding costs have risen by 40% over the last 12 months alone!
Donations to church funds are thus urgently needed.
We now have an official link with St Mary9s in Westerham with whom we
have formed a United Benefice. Dave Fox-Branch, our vicar, and the
churchwardens said how grateful they were to all the visiting clergy who
have preached over the last two years of vacancy. They hope to appoint an
Associate Minister shortly who will live in the Crockham Hill Vicarage on
Oakdale Lane.
There were also full reports and lively discussions on the Churchyard,
Communications, Edenbridge Churches in Covenant, The Eden Christian
Trust, Families and Children, the Flower Guild, Prayer Group, Safeguarding
and our Tanzania link.
