Crockham Hill Garden Club
23 July, 2.30pm, Woodmote, Close Farm Road
We are all becoming more aware of the huge importance of biodiversity in
our gardens and our surroundings. A biodiverse garden is overflowing with
life and supports a small web of the natural ecosystem from birds and bees
to hedgehogs and beetles. We as gardeners can help by including native
plants, pollinator friendly plants, 8grasses9, wildlife shelters, ponds,
feeders, and by composting. Engaging with nature and watching wildlife
sharing our space improves our own mental and physical health. Every
small step we take to encourage wildlife is of benefit, whether it be a bug
hotel, a small wood pile, a pond of any size, providing food and nesting
sites, and not using pesticides. Visiting
gardens and chatting with other
gardeners connects us with local
conservation and our community.
The Garden Club had a fantastic
afternoon visiting two gardens in
Lewins Coach House Garden Alex Maule
Spout Lane in May. It was fabulous to
wander around these beautiful gardens followed by a lovely tea. Thank you
to Anne and Alex for your wonderful hospitality and for inviting us. We
were all inspired and came back with big ideas for our own gardens!
We are looking forward to our next visit to Trish and Tony9s lovely garden
at Woodmote, Close Farm Road on Wednesday July 23 at 2.30 pm, and are
planning a September visit with details to follow in the next newsletter.
